Reflections on My Introduction to New Media Class

Reflections on My Introduction to New Media Class Taking the Introduction to New Media course has broadened my understanding of how digital communication works and how it influences everyday life. Although I interacted with digital platforms before, this class helped me understand them in a more structured and academic way. Below are three of the major things I learned and how they have influenced my perception and use of new media. 1. Three New Things I Learned a. Key Concepts and Definitions in New Media From Week 1, I learned clear definitions of media, new media, digital media, social media, and computer-mediated communication (CMC). Blog Title: Exploring the Characteristics of New Media Body: This week in class, we delved into the fascinating world of new media and its unique characteristics that distinguish it from traditional media. Here’s what I learned: 1. Interactivity: New media allows a two-way dialogue, whether between humans or between humans and computers. It’s all about feedback and engagement. 2. Demassification: Unlike traditional media, which targets broad audiences, new media breaks communication into smaller, independent units, focusing on niche audiences. 3. Asynchronisation: Interaction doesn’t need to happen in real-time. Users can engage despite differences in time or location. 4. Immediacy: Information is shared quickly, often instantly, allowing audiences to stay up to date in real-time. 5. Visual: Visual elements like images, graphics, and videos are central to communication in new media. 6. Universality: New media knows no boundariesit’s global, accessible from anywhere, and not limited by ...
